Temporary Protected Status Attorney in Macon
Are You Eligible For Immigration Relief In The U.S. Because Of Conditions In Your Home Country?
The Department of Homeland Security can designate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to foreign nationals when it would be dangerous to return to their home country during a time of crisis or turmoil. TPS can be a life-changing reprieve for people who are facing removal (deportation) from the U.S. because of illegal entry, immigration violations or deportable crimes.
Temporary Protected Status changes frequently. It is important to act quickly if you are from one of the designated countries because TPS can be rescinded when conditions in that country stabilize. The immigration law attorneys of Deadwyler-Heuman Law Firm, LLC, can help you secure or renew your TPS status to allow you to stay in the U.S. and not be separated from your family. Call us at 478-216-6233 for a consultation.
What Is Temporary Protected Status (TPS)?
Homeland Security commonly designates countries for TPS based on:
- Armed conflicts such as civil war or war with neighboring nations
- Environmental disasters or health epidemics
- Other extraordinary and temporary conditions that make the country unsafe
Under Temporary Protected Status, you will not be subject to removal from the United States and you cannot be detained by Homeland Security (ICE) because of your immigration status. You can also seek work authorization and travel authorization under TPS.
What Countries Have Temporary Protected Status?
The list is always changing. You can consult the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service website for current TPS designations and extensions. Our lawyers can also determine if you would be eligible.
Is TPS A Path To A Green Card?
TPS does not confer lawful permanent status (green card). It is temporary. If the protected status for that country is lifted, you can again be subject to removal proceedings. However, TPS is not a barrier to applying for nonimmigrant visas (student visas, business visas, etc.), adjustment of status, asylum or other relief such as immigration waivers.
